This family of high-speed multiple-unit trains is continuously developed by Alstom, both technically and visually. The TGV Euroduplex is one such innovation, designed for operating speeds of up to 320 km/h.
\r\n\r\n
The Euroduplex consists of ten double-deck cars, with two power cars and eight intermediate coaches. As its name suggests, the fleet of 134 trainsets is equipped for international service. Operating under the name TGV INOUI, these trains run not only across France but also into Switzerland and Germany. Whether travelling for business or leisure, passengers experience high-speed operation combined with comfort and a distinctly French atmosphere. Onboard Wi-Fi is available, and the bistro offers coffee and light refreshments.
\r\n\r\n
The TGV INOUI can be added to a layout in HO scale in a configurations of up to ten cars, bringing the French high-speed rail to the model railway.
\r\n\r\n
Prototype: TGV INOUI (Euroduplex) high-speed train. The triple headlights and dual red marker lights change over with the direction of travel. They and the interior lighting will work in conventional operation and can be controlled digitally. The third headlight can be separately switched off digitally for the French light changeover (light function). Maintenance-free warm white and red LEDs are used for the lighting. A continuous electrical connection through the entire train supplies the interior lighting with power. Each powered end car has 2 different single-arm pantograph designs, one with a slipper for the DB catenary and one with a slipper for the SNCF catenary. The pantographs work mechanically but are not wired to take power.
\r\n\r\n
The cars are a scale reproduction, which means the minimum radius for operation is 360 mm (14-11/64) with sufficient clearance on both sides. When the European locomotive industry lay in ruins at the end of the war, and France in particular had lost a significant portion of its locomotive fleet, the French government turned to the United States for rapid relief.
\r\n\r\n
What they needed was a locomotive that met French standards and could serve as reliable, all-purpose motive power across the network. Within only two years, American and Canadian locomotive manufacturers delivered more than 1,300 “Light Mikado” locomotives for the SNCF. In France, however, these engines were anything but “light.” With an indicated output of more than 3,000 horsepower, they ranked among the most powerful steam locomotives in all of Europe.
\r\n\r\n
For many years, the 141.R class hauled a wide variety of trains — including prestigious services such as the luxury “Mistral,” which connected Paris with the Côte d’Azur. The final 141.R locomotives remained in service until 1974 in Sarreguemines, near the German border, where they regularly stood side-by-side with German steam engines that, by comparison, looked almost small.
