SBB Twindexx: Switzerland's Next-generation High-capacity Long Distance Trains

The SBB RABe 502 “Twindexx Swiss Express” represents the next generation of Switzerland’s high-capacity long-distance fleet. Built by Bombardier Transportation, these modern double-deck EMUs are designed to seamlessly connect regions across the country with speed, comfort, and efficiency.

Part of the FV-Dosto family, the Twindexx fleet includes IR200, IC200 and IR100 variants, progressively introduced from the late 2010s and now operating extensively across the network. Serving major cities such as Geneva, Zurich, St. Gallen and Basel, these trains connect large parts of Switzerland on a daily basis.

Designed for operation at up to 200 km/h, the Twindexx features innovative double-deck architecture, spacious interiors, and advanced ride technology, ensuring a smooth and stable journey even on Switzerland’s demanding rail network. These trains now form the backbone of SBB’s InterCity and InterRegio services, offering increased capacity while maintaining the precision and reliability synonymous with Swiss rail travel.
