ÖBB Railjet 2 – Austria’s Next-Generation Long-Distance Passenger Train

Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) is introducing the Railjet 2 as a new generation of long-distance trains, combining high passenger comfort, modern technology and improved energy efficiency. Siemens Mobility developed the Railjet-2 on its Viaggio Next Level platform as the successor to the first-generation Railjet. The new design places greater emphasis on an integrated train formation, seamless movement between cars and greater modularity.

The Extension Car Set

This three-car Railjet 2 extension set consists of three Economy Class Bmpz passenger cars. Two cars feature the distinctive “family zone” markings.

The completely new models feature finely detailed bogies with separately fitted disc brakes, detailed connections between the cars and closely coupled spacing for a nearly continuous appearance across the formation. Separately fitted roof-mounted air-conditioning equipment, multi-part interiors, luggage racks and flush-mounted destination displays add further detail.

The digital versions include factory-fitted interior lighting and current-conducting couplings on all three cars. The set uses NEM coupling pockets and includes rigid couplings.

Important: The interior lighting can only be switched when this extension set is used with Railjet-2 set 6210178. The new Railjet-2 cars use the latest NEM electrical coupling configuration and should only be operated in the intended Railjet-2 formation.
